RCO Paul Newman Daytona Goes Unsold at Christie’s Rolex Afternoon

Share
Lot 223 at Christie’s Rolex Afternoon sale, a ref. 6263 Paul Newman Daytona with the mythical RCO or “Oyster Sotto” dial has just gone unsold. Sale estimate on the lot was listed at CHF 450,000 – CHF 650,000. Failing to find a buyer willing to meet the lower estimate, the watch was withheld.

The 6263 RCO has been the subject of much discussion (and dispute) among Rolex scholars in recent years, especially after an example of the watch was sold by Phillips Watches at a record CHF1,985,000 at their START-STOP-RESET thematic auction last year.
