Breguet’s Tradition collection is a unique blend of watchmaking mastery, traditional styling and cutting-edge innovation that was originally released in 2005 as homage to (and inspired by) Abraham-Louis Breguet’s Souscription watches. The Souscription watches were born out of Breguet’s time when he sought refuge in Switzerland. He had the idea for clients to reserve watches with a down payment (hence, souscription in French). The caliber he created at the time was especially elegant, with the barrel at the center of the watch and a symmetrical layout for the train. Over 200 years later, Breguet created the Tradition collection, an offering of the best Souscription watches with a more modern styling — a nod to Breguet’s past with a look towards its future.
Today, the new-for-Basel 2017 Tradition Dame in rose gold showcases the brand’s expertise and history in beautiful fashion. The self-winding Breguet caliber 505SR is a great example of the combination of tradition and innovation, as it features a classic Swiss lever escapement with silicon pallets and a silicon Breguet balance spring.
Key parts of the movement are on display, like the rosette motif hand-engraving on the barrel, and the offset dial in natural white mother-of-pearl with handcrafted engine-turned Clous de Paris hob nailing.
The bridges and mainplates are sandblasted and rhodium-plated to set off the 37mm rose-gold case bearing Breguet’s signature fluted caseband. The bezel of this case is set with 68 brilliant-cut diamonds, with a watch jewel set into the crown.
No one can mistake the true watchmaking content in this new Breguet Tradition Dame, yet it is still supremely feminine.
The Tradition collection from Breguet really stands out from the rest of the industry due to its unique combination of classicism, attention to detail and innovation.
