Baselworld 2015: Patek 5270 Stunning in Rose Gold, With Live Images

Share

Perpetual calendar chronographs hold a special place in the hearts of Patek Philippe collectors. It’s been said that this complication by this brand has appeared on the covers of more auction catalogs than any other. Over the years, the 1518, 2499, 3970 and 5970 have attracted legions of devoted followers. The downside of producing beloved icons is that you alter them at your own risk, never mind replacing them entirely.

When the 5270 came along in 2011, it was the first in a lineage dating to 1941 to offer an entirely in-house movement. Earlier models used third-party ebauches, heavily modified by Patek. So you would think the new model would be instantly embraced by the faithful. In fact, the new model produced a fair amount of controversy. Now, four years later, it’s the turn of the new Calatrava Travel Time Ref. 5524 to generate controversy, while the latest 5270 R, in rose gold with a silver opaline dial, debuted to rave reviews. It’s one of our favorite new watches of the show. Here are a few of our live images, with complete technical information below.
