Blancpain Kicks Off 2020 with Blue-dial additions to the Villeret Collection

The small town of Villeret, in the canton of Bern, Switzerland is where Blancpain was founded some 285 years ago, in 1735. And while modern-day Blancpain operates between Le Brassus and Le Sentier, Villeret still holds an important place in the heart of the brand, with an eponymous collection dedicated to the brand’s classical vocabulary of watchmaking.

It is with the Villeret collection that Blancpain has chosen to kick off 2020. The duo that has just been announced include the Quantième Complet and the Ultraplate.

Villeret Ultraplate

We start off with the purist’s execution of the Villeret collection, the Ultraplate. This time executed in a 40mm 18k red gold case with a sheer blue dial interrupted only by applique red gold Roman numerals.

Some amongst us will, of course, point out their disapproval of the date window. But consider this three-hander a daily wearer and, therein, where you might benefit from having the date right there on your wrist.

Again, doubling up on this idea of the watch being a daily wearer is that it is powered by the self-winding calibre 1151, which has two series-coupled barrels that give it 4 days of power reserve.

Villeret Quantième Complet

Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet

The next watch in the duo is an execution of the Villeret Quantième Complet, in red gold with blue dial. The timepiece features a complete calendar complication with the date indicated using a serpentine hand and the day and month displayed using apertures placed just under the 12 o’clock marker; above the 6 o’clock marker you have a moon phase indicator.

The movement powering the watch is the self-winding calibre 6654, which thoughtfully has a safety system that enables the wearer to adjust the time and calendar display at any point in time without fear of adversely affecting the mechanism within.

A further innovation contained in the Villeret Quantième Complet is the calendar and moon phase correctors incorporated on the underside of watch lugs.
