With the launch of this year’s TimeWalker collection at SIHH 2017, Montblanc’s made a clear indication of its intention to delve deep into the pursuit of precision timing instruments, which really is a page straight out of Minerva’s history books.

And now with the announcement of the maison’s partnership with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it would appear that Montblanc’s not satisfied with merely creating these instruments, but rather they wish to also have these timepieces brought into a universe they quite naturally belong to.

The 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed will bear the theme, Peaks of Performance, which will highlight cars from the history of racing that were so ground breaking that entire rule sets had to be changed in order to have these cars be brought into professional racing.

This is not unlike the history of Minerva, who at the height of their pursuit of creating precision timing instruments became pertinent to motor car race with instruments that were accurate up to 1/100th of a second. The famed Rally Timer stopwatch was one such instrument that came to being in 1960.

The 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed, quite fortunately, also coincides with Montblanc’s timeframe for when it had wanted to bring the new TimeWalker collection to market. This year the festival will run from June 29th to July 2nd 2017 and will be located at the Goodwood House, Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 0PX (get directions here).

Montblanc, who will be the festival’s official timing partner for the next five years, will be there at Goodwood with not just the 2017 TimeWalker collection, but also The Game Changers, a set of 10 revolutionary race cars from the 1920s to present day that disrupted motor sports with the innovation they brought to the field. These cars will not be there just for show and tell, they will also be participating in the famed Goodwood hill climb.
