Cartier: The New 2013 Collection In A Nutshell!

Share

The new collection of Cartier brings this year many very attractive and wearable watches in the ‘Fine Watchmaking Collection’ but also in the ‘Mainstream Collection’.

Since it’s a lot of information, we’ll do a quick picture presentation of most of the presented models now
and we will come back later, with more specs and technical information.

Pieces that made a huge impression on most people are the Mysterious watches.
Mystery clocks are in Cartier’s catalogue since 1912 and it’s great news that this technique is now
back again in the clock collection and in the watch collection!

In the next few weeks we will do an article about these watches and about the technique and history
of the Mystery clocks.

– Tortue Multiple Time Zone Watch –

In the footsteps of the earlier releases Tortue perpetual calendar watches, we’ll see this year the
Tortue Multi Timezone watch.

The new Tortue is actually a Worldtime watch, but instead of making the dial busy with all the
city names, Cartier designed a window in the side of the case, where a mobile disc,
shows the city names. Case in pink- or white gold, dimensions: 51×45.6mm and newly developed
9914MC automatic movement, based on the in la Chaud de Fonds developed 1904 MC caliber.
Power reserve 48 hours.

Cartier’s new Perpetual Chronograph was discussed heavily during the press presentation and many
were charmed by the version with the chocolate dial. It’s a bit harder to read, but really sets the watch
apart from the rest.

The new automatic mechanical chronograph movement, that is hand finished, incorporates a number
of technical innovations intended to increase its precision and power.  The caliber is of course automatic, important for a Perpetual, the basis already existed in the Cartier collection and is often simply called ”the Module” by the watchmakers.  It has now been adapted to the completely new Manufacture calibre 1904-CH MC.
Clasp: double adjustable folding clasp in 18-carat pink- or white gold

– Ballon Bleu de Cartier with Double Jumping Second Time Zone Watch –
The Fine Watch Making collection started off in 2008 with the Ballon Bleu flying tourbillon.
New for 2013 is the Ballon Bleu de Cartier with Double Jumping Second Time Zone Watch,
quite a name for a time piece, but it also is quite a watch, that’s limited to 50 pieces only,
in white- and 50 pieces in pink gold.

The watch is not a straight forward tourbillon, like the Ballon Bleu tourbillon from 2008, but it has been designed like a regulator. With its central minute hand and its two jumping hour counters– one for your home time zone and one for the city you’re visiting.Like all Cartier tourbillon watches, it’s stamped with the Geneva Seal.

– Tortue XL Petite Complication –
Very sexy Tortue, that remembers the Tortue XL in the CPCP series.  The watch has an identical 38 x 48mm case, a petite seconde @ 6 and a Grande date.  The watch that is powered with a 9602 MC caliber, comes in white- and in pink gold.

– Santos Dumont Petite Complication –
A new Santos Dumont is always a treat. The case of this new model has the same looks as the current model, from 2004, but is less TV shaped and a bit more square, also a bit thicker, which makes it a very nice and masculine watch. Very different is the version with the grey dial.

But a white dial is also available. Both variations have a Grande Date, Power Reserve window and the 9750 MC mechanical caliber; a proven, hand wound, mechanical movement.

New in the series Metiers d’Art is the Falcon in grand feu enamel.

– Tank Americaine Moyen Model –
Various new and medium sized Tank Americaine models with an amazing Rhodié bracelet.  The links of the bracelet look like fish scales and have an incredible smooth feel.  Finally a new and incredible bracelet in the collection again, that has the look of the vintage bracelets that Cartier was always famous for.  Let’s hope that a variation of this bracelet will also be produced for the large Tank Americaine model.

The Tanks I handeled at the SIHH, were fitted with a one side adjustable folding buckle, set with diamonds, a beautiful detail that’s constantly visible by the owner.

– Ronde de Cartier –
The Ronde de Cartier model is the more refined version of the Rotonde de Cartier model.  A bit more smooth, smaller lugs and maybe a bit more dressy than it’s business looking brother.  New is the plain ‘time only’ model, with mechanical hand wound caliber.

and a version in Metiers d’Art, with the underwater theme; the Clown fish.

Very colourful and attractive dial.

– Rotonde de Cartier Metiers d’Art –
Very striking model that needs to be seen in the flesh, since the very special colour blue was hard to photograph.

– Crash watch –
Back in the collection but in very limited series and presented as a ladies model.  267 numbered pieces for the models with gold bracelets and 67 numbered pieces for the models with gem-set bracelets.

– Tank Anglaise –
Many new variations in this product line and the biggest news is of course the Tank Anglaise on leather strap, like we have seen earlier and actually since the introduction, on the wrist of Mr Bernard Fornas! Many folks have been waiting for this option.

The steel pink gold model was already released last November but also new in the line up now are the models with diamonds and leather strap.

Cartier gave some fantastic Press presentations at the SIHH and I am sure that I am not the only journalist who would like to thank the Paris team  for the opportunity to handle the watches ourselves and for the opportunity to photograph them right on the spot.  More extended information about some models will follow in the next few weeks.
