Chopard Turns Historic Race Cars Into Wrist Candy

Share

Many watch brands have close ties to a single car brand, but it is Chopard that generously proclaims its love for all cars….but only if they are vintage! This could have something to do with the fact that Chopard’s co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, has a true passion for vintage sports cars and is known for occasionally driving up to the Chopard manufacture in Fleurier in one of the classic cars from his collection. So it is no surprise that Chopard sponsors two of the most most important events in the world where vintage cars can be enjoyed for what they where built for; driving!

Since 1988 the Maison sponsors the Mille Miglia and since 2002 they have sponsored the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. In this event, historic race cars of all ages take on the legendary track and its and corners of the Grand Prix de Monaco, in an event that is as much a visual spectacle as it is one of sound!

Chopard obliges in this matter as well with not one, but three watches! A time only, power reserve, as well as a chronograph of their Classic Racing collection are donned in the colors black, yellow and grey. The combination of these colors is rather powerful, as they make the different functions of the watch stand out significantly from the rest, much as is the same with the classic race cars.

GPMH Power Control 168569-3001As for how to strap the watches on the wrist, Chopard offers three options. A sturdy stainless steel bracelet gives the watches a very contemporary look, while the perforated Rally strap with yellow stitching not only emphasizes the classical side of the watch, it also brings out the yellow details on the dial. A true driver probably prefers the black and yellow NATO-strap that are also available.

Given the fact that each option gives the watch such a completely different look, I wouldn’t be surprised when many people opt to buy all three options with their watch. That is of course after they have made their choice out of the three different models to begin with.
