Christie’s Vintage Patek Philippe Selling Exhibition in New York (13-23 July 2017)

Looks like Christie’s has been plenty busy recently. First the announcement of Only Watch 2017 and now this.

While The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York 2017 is underway, Christie’s will convene in the Big Apple with some 300 vintage Patek Philippe timepieces for a selling exhibition.

Starting from the 13th of July, all the way to the 23rd, the auction house will be at the Rockefeller Center with watches and other objects of time dating back to the mid-19th century through the late 20th century.

Concurrently, there is also an online only sale, with 85 lots up for grabs.

Christie’s International Head of Watches, John Reardon in a Q&A for christies.com explains the exhibition saying, “The concept for the Christie’s exhibition is quite simple. With thousands of Patek Philippe Collectors and enthusiasts converging on New York in July, it is the perfect time to celebrate all things Patek Philippe and offer collectors the chance to see and purchase exceptional museum quality watches. The demand for purchasing vintage watches is now higher than ever before and this exhibition offers buyers the opportunity to own a piece of Patek Philippe’s history at all price points.”

Enticing buyers further, Reardon says the exhibition will feature complete timelines of certain families of Patek Philippe’s such as the development of their 20th century chronographs starting from the ref. 130 moving on to the 530, 533, 591, 1579, 1463.

There are also four ref. 1518 perpetual calendar chronographs along with several ref. 2499s with examples in each series (remember there were four series amounting to just 349 watches to begin with). So the word, “several” is a rather impressive feat.

While the complete catalogue has yet to be published, go ahead read the Q&A mentioned earlier here to get a better sense of the sale from John Reardon himself. When the complete list of watches is available, make no mistake, we will bring it to you in due time.
