Christmas Wish List: Sophie Furley, Editor in Chief, Revolution Switzerland
Sometimes, the watches we want the most are the ones that we can’t have; the limited editions that have long been sold. Van Cleef & Arpels’ Lady Arpels Centenaire showing the change of the seasons is one such watch.
The Saisons watches have a very special place in my heart as they were enameled by my good friend Dominique Baron, who sadly passed away in 2012.
I remember her working on these pieces in her little home workshop in the French Jura. She would paint each one with a secret signature, and would always challenge me to find it, but I never did.
I would love to find one of these at auction so I could remember our friendship and her incredible talent. And then I would have all the time in the world to find her secret signature!
This is a watch that I have had my eye on for a while. It doesn’t look anything special in a magazine photo, but see one on a feminine wrist and it comes alive.
There is something about the design that just breathes sophistication. If you are listening, Santa, I really like the rose-gold version on a bracelet, but a chocolate brown strap is just fine too, and if you have any with a diamond bezel, I promise to be a good girl!
To complete my Christmas trio of timepieces, there is a timekeeper that has been on my list of desirable objects for quite some time now, and it isn’t a watch at all, but a Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock.
I currently have an Ikea clock on the top of my mantelpiece, and although it keeps perfect time, I think if I were to check the time on the handcrafted dial of an Atmos as I am rushing out the door every morning, life would be just that tiny bit sweeter.
