Deep Diving — The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer

Share

Ulysse Nardin’s link to the sea runs deep, a genuine history that makes everything the brand does today possible. And the new Diver Chronometer is a giant leap forward in dive watches.

Usually, dive watches from true watchmaking companies aren’t really meant for the water, but in this case, the new Diver Chronometer only truly feels at home when submerged. The Diver Chronometer is designed and manufactured to withstand up to three hundred meters of destructive water pressure, its inverted, concave bezel with domed sapphire glass is an innovation in high watchmaking.

Free-diver Fred Buyle is convinced by his Diver Chronometer. “The main advantage of freediving is that we don’t have a lot of gear,” he explains. “I basically only travel with a wetsuit, dive watch, a pair of fins, a mask, and, of course, my photo equipment. A dive watch is the most crucial accessory for a free diver. When you’re freediving, you have a special relationship to time — sometimes it passes fast and other times it seems to slow down or even stop. Your watch almost becomes a friend, so I am always wearing my Ulysse Nardin Diver timepieces. I rely on my watch to monitor my perception of time. An automatic watch is key as it gives you the peace of mind that you won’t run out of battery in the middle of a remote expedition.”
The new 44mm Diver Chronometer is powered by an in-house automatic movement, using Ulysse Nardin’s proprietary silicium technology, all with an aim to increase precision, reliability and ease of use. Not only is the new Diver Chronometer an extremely capable tool watch, it is also a wonderful all-arounder, capable of going from Davy Jones’ locker to an elegant dinner, and everything in between, while looking fantastic.
In addition to the blue and black versions, the Diver Chronometer is also available as the Diver Great White and Monaco limited editions. The former features a great white shark stamped on the case back, and is limited to 300 pieces. The latter features a Monegasque flag at 12 o’clock, Monaco’s coat-of-arms on the case back, and the dates for the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show in red on the date disc; available in 100 pieces.
