Glashütte Original recently invited Revolution Switzerland to join in on the festivities of the Berlin Film Festival, which takes place every year in the German capital to celebrate both old and new films from all around the world. A partner of the festival since 2011, the German watchmaker chose to honor its partnership this year by merging the arts of watchmaking and film-making through the creation of its very own short movies. Instead of writing the scripts themselves, Glashütte Original asked friends of the brand to submit their own stories and thoughts about the brand, its watches and history. The goal was to choose five film ideas out of the 17 proposed that put forward personal points of view of the brand in a unique way. We’ve rounded up the five selected movies for you to watch below, so sit back and enjoy the show!
Perspective 1: Living The Mechanical Dream
In Living The Mechanical Dream, Joacim Olsson and Tony Axelzon from Sweden portray their love for German mechanics, and of course, Glashütte Original’s timepieces. Both owners of Glashütte Original watches and experienced watch collectors, Olsson and Axelzon discuss what makes a timepiece so special and what appeals to them about Glashütte Original’s watches.
Perspective 2: Phoenix Rising
Starring Brice Goulard from Monochrome Watches, the Phoenix Rising recounts the incredible history of watchmaking in the town of Glashütte, from the 1840s until today. Instead of focusing solely on Glashütte Original’s timepieces, Monochrome Watches chose to put the spotlight on the men and women of the Manufacture who work tirelessly to create these ticking masterpieces and who, most of all, transmit their passion for fine watchmaking from generation to generation.
Perspective 3: The Sound Of The Original

The Sound of the Original features an audible take on the Glashütte Original manufacture. Journalist Joern Kengelbach worked closely with the composer Sven Helbig to create music out of all the sounds heard and recorded inside the manufacture. They took this soundtrack and turned it into a video with images filmed in and around the manufacture.
Perspective 4: My Journey With Glashütte Original
My Journey with Glashütte Original tells Dr. Zhiming Xu’s passionate story with Glashütte Original. A financial expert from Hong Kong, Dr. Zhiming Xu has been collecting watches since the mid 1990s, with a great focus on Glashütte Original masterpieces and limited edition timepieces. In this short film he describes what attracted him to the brand and what keeps him coming back for more.
Perspective 5: Time Traveler
Canadian watch and lifestyle journalist Rhona Riche describes her personal and emotional story with an old Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb ladies’ watch dating back to the 1970s. Through the watch, she talks about the importance of home and family and how Glashütte Original seeks inspiration in the past to design its current collections.
