Grand Seiko has just announced two new additions to its Elegance collection for ladies driven by its new self-winding cal. 9S27 movement and bearing a distinctive new case shape that is vaguely tonneau, yet not quite. To us, the STGK011 (textured white dial) and STGK013 (deep purple ‘Koki-murasaki’ mother-of-pearl dial) look like the classic Grand Seiko 62GS from 1967, a round-cased watch with full-width domed crystal, but ensconced in overlong midcase that flow into the lugs like a pair of hands, lined with diamonds for the entire stretch.
It’s a more complex case than a conventional tonneau and the body lines are hand-finished to perfection in Grand Seiko fashion. The dials too, are as exquisite as we have come to expect of Grand Seiko, and indeed for its lower-priced Seiko sister brand.
