Introducing Bell & Ross’ New BR V2 Garde-Côtes Watches
Visually speaking, Bell & Ross has quite clearly taken a cue from the coast guards’ work wear and rescue vehicles. It is, however, the thoughtful functionalities, which are worked into the two watches that are most worth pointing out.
The first watch, the BR V2-92 Garde-Côtes, is quite the no-nonsense dive watch, created with the coast guard rescue divers in mind. At 41mm, the steel timepiece features a bi-directional dive bezel and water-resistant down to a good 100m, thanks to the screw down crown. Although, hopefully, no rescue diver will ever have to test out the watch’s water-resistance to such a depth, while on the job.
The watch is powered the automatic calibre BR-CAL.302, which lends itself to a central running seconds, hours and minutes, along with a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. The numerals, indices and hands are all filled in with white Superluminova®.
The second watch, the BR V2-94 Garde-Côtes, is a chronograph with the same visual suggestions as its sibling. But again, with some clever functionalities thrown into the mix. So, because both watches are meant for use in wet conditions, you’ll see that on top of the crown being a screw-down one, the chrono-pushers too are screw-down making the watch water-resistant up to 100m.
The next detail that has the rescuers in mind is the scale on the chronograph’s bezel. Intuitively, most might assume for the chrono bezel to have a simple timescale in accordance to the “tool” nature of the watch. Bell and Ross, however, have kept in mind the lifesaving duties of the coast guard and very rightly incorporated a pulsometer scale. Very nice touch.
