2017 marks the 60th birthday of Piaget’s Altiplano — a benchmark even today, in elegant, slim watchmaking.
In celebrating the significant milestone, the maison kicked things off in December of 2016, just ahead of SIHH 2017, with a two-piece limited edition collection that featured the signature cross and gold applied indices set against brilliant blue sunbursts dials; a shade that is now anchored in Piaget’s history.
At 43mm, the first watch, came fitted with the Piaget Manufacture 1200P ultra-thin mechanical self-winding movement and the latter was a 38mm piece, fitted with the 430P ultra-thin mechanical hand-wound movement. Both pieces were white gold.
At SIHH 2017 proper, the maison expanded the palette of offerings in the Altiplano 60th Anniversary collection with several additional iterations, including the regal green and yellow gold piece that particularly captivated Revolution’s editors.
And now, just ahead of next year’s SIHH announcements, Piaget’s unveiled a pocket watch version of the Altiplano limited to 26 pieces. The special creation features the same, signature blue dial and the 1200P movement from the initial watch in the collection, but this time we find it contained within a 50mm white gold case.
The pocket watch will be supplied with a blue calfskin leather loop and carry pouch. Although if you’re thinking that the watch might serve you better as a table clock, then Piaget has thought ahead for you, too. Because, additionally, a blue straw marquetry desk stand will also be provided with the pocket watch that effortless converts it into showpiece fit for any collector’s mantle.
