Closer Look: Casio G-SHOCK GM-6900 with Metal Bezels

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic G-SHOCK DW-6900-1V, which was first released in February 1995. To commemorate this special occasion, Casio has decided to add new members to the G-SHOCK family called the GM-6900 series and featuring all-new metal bezels.

The “Triple Graph”, named after its three round indicators, is one of the most popular G-SHOCK models ever and has many times been used as the base for collaborations with celebrities and brands. Think Eminem, Maharishi, and more recently a collaboration with streetwear and sneaker retail establishment KITH – which coincidentally served as the first anniversary GM-6900 watch featuring a metal bezel in rose gold.

The three new GM-6900 models presented here feature a choice of silver, gold or black bezel. The first two come on a black resin bracelet while the black bezel is featured on the red model and paired with a translucent red resin band.

G-SHOCKs are known to be extremely tough watches and are expected to be shock, water and vibration resistant. If you want to know how tough a G-Shock really is, you should have a look at this video we made where we tortured and tried to destroy a G-SHOCK

These new models don’t change in that aspect, they all have a shock-resistant construction. The inner resin case is reinforced with fiberglass, and the small protrusions on the inner case reduce contacts with the metal bezel. The metal bezel itself is made of stainless steel which undergoes a shaping process made of approximately 20 forging stages, followed by several cutting and polishing steps. Each piece is thereafter carefully finished to achieve the characteristic 6900 bezel design.

The watch retains all the characteristics that make the timepiece immediately recognizable from far away like the metal front button, the “Triple Graph” dial but this time on a metallic face, and the negative LCD display (light numbers on a dark background). The new models are a great way to celebrate the anniversary of this model and G-SHOCK enthusiasts will surely find one in the line-up that will fit their tastes.
