Introducing the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary”

A. Lange & Söhne’s 25th anniversary celebrations continue with yet another special timepiece announced. Having kicked off with the Lange 1 “25th Anniversary”, just ahead of SIHH 2019, this time round it’s a similarly dressed Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase.

The Lange 1 first welcomed the moon phase complication back in 2002. Later in 2014, its larger sibling, the Grand Lange 1, was bestowed with the moon phase placed into its hour and minutes off-set dial. This allowed Lange’s watchmakers to use the lager aperture to unabashedly shine the spotlight on their moon phase — which if the watch is worn regularly — will remain accurate for 122.6 years without correction.

The piece created on the occasion of Lange’s 25th anniversary now is in white gold. And owing to the fact that this is a Grand Lange 1, the case is 41mm, or 2.5mm larger than the classic Lange 1 proportions.

Paired with the blued steel hands, all of the numerals, minute and seconds track markings on the solid silver dial are printed in a seamless blue. Center stage we have a large cut out on the hour and minutes off-set dial, where the moon phase complication is nestled.

For the occasion of the anniversary, the disc of the moon phase indicator is rendered in solid white gold. Of course, what is most impressive thereafter is that the depiction of the moon and starry sky is completely engraved by hand. Beyond the inlaid moon itself, six distinct stars are carved onto the bare gold surface.

Turning the watch over we have the Lange manufacture caliber L095.3 with 72 hours of power reserve. However, the L095.3 used for the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” is made appropriate for the celebration with the signature hand-engraved Lange balance cock filled in with a blue color. And as we saw with the Lange 1 “25th Anniversary” last month, today’s announcement too has the number 25 incorporated into the balance cock decoration.

By now we see that Lange’s got a bit of a theme going: blued hands and dial markings on a solid silver dial, set within white gold cases. We’ve got eight other announcements until the brand’s Silver Anniversary editions are wrapped but for now, the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” being announced today will be produced in an edition of 25 pieces and its price stands at EU 45,800. Although, truth be told, in the time that it took for you to reach the end of this article, all 25 pieces are probably already spoken for. Better luck for next month’s anniversary piece.
