Introducing the MB&F LM Split Escapement Titanium Green

MB&F extends the LM Split Escapement timepiece with the addition of a Grade 5 titanium green dial variation.

The number to remember when talking about the MB&F Legacy Machine Split Escapement is: 11.78mm.

Because you see, that is the exact height of the balance shaft within this timepiece and ultimately the solitary element from the complete movement that makes the magic on the front of its dial possible.

When first announced in late 2017, the Split Escapement was the fifth chapter of MB&F’s Legacy Machines. It brought to center a common denominator of all of the LMs thus far, which is the balance wheel (or, wheels in the case of the LM No.2) being held in suspension above the watch face.

What sets the Split Escapement apart from its older siblings though is exactly in its name: that the watch has its escapement components separated above and below the dial. The balance wheel, you’ll observe is held at the very end of the 11.78mm balance shaft. The escapement wheel and pallet fork, thereafter, are on the other end of the balance shaft, on the underside of the mainplate, visible only through the caseback.

Sure, the escapement mechanism is likewise split on the LM Perpetual, but with so much else happening on that timepiece it’s hard to say that this bit of engineering was given center stage on that timepiece. With the LM Split Escapement, all of the limelight is cast on this one technical feat.

At the time of launch, the timepiece was made available solely in white-gold with four frosted dial options. And now, two years on, MB&F has announced a titanium variation of the LM Split Escapement, with a green CVD-treated dial. The watch keeps to a tradition of MB&F’s in offering their watches in different material and dial treatment options after what was made available during launch.
