Introducing the Zenith Defy Classic Carbon

Share
The revived Defy line has been something of a shining light in Zenith’s catalogue in recent years, and now, thanks to a full-body makeover, it’s lighter than ever. The Zenith Defy Classic Carbon is, as you might expect from the refreshingly straightforward naming convention, made from carbon. In addition to some material benefits, it provides an entirely fresh aesthetic. One very much in keeping with the somewhat edgy proposition of the Defy Classic.

The benefits of carbon as a case material — in addition to the looks — are high strength, corrosion resistance and exceptional lightness. The entire watch, on a carbon bracelet, weighs in at 65 grams — which, in the grand scheme of things is, nothing. To put it in perspective, this carbon watch weighs almost half that of the equivalent model in titanium.

Really, the fact that this watch comes with the option of a full carbon bracelet is quite a feat — it’s not something you see that often, and, combined with the integrated design of the bracelet itself, is quite a looker, and is (thanks to the silky-smooth finish of the carbon) guaranteed to feel great on the wrist: light as a feather and just as soft. Of course, if you prefer the feeling of supple rubber on your wrist, Zenith has you covered — with a black rubber Cordura-effect strap.

The technical material is also perfectly at home with the open-worked, angular dial of the Defy Classic, complete with that star-shaped dial motif, which, like the case and bracelet is realized in dark, ruthenium-plated tones with a striking brushed finish, that allows glimpses of the skeletonised Elite 670 movement. You also get flashes of glowing green Super-LumiNova SLN C3 on the hands, hours and even behind the skeletonised date display at six.

Carbon cases don’t make sense on all watches but on a modern, sporty design like the Defy Classic it’s a match made in material-heaven. This smart, cohesively designed watch goes to show that the star of the Zenith Defy Classic is still rising.
