Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Rendez-Vous with Excellence
Although most of us female watch aficionados want to be horlogically equal with the boys, we still like to feel special, [Editor’s note: men’s watches with mother-of-pearl dials, diamonds and pink straps are disrespectful to womankind and should be banned]— something that Jaeger-LeCoultre understands extremely well.
The maison’s designers came up with the idea of placing a star on the dial that could be set against any time of day as a reminder of an important event—a secret rendez-vous, the time of a first kiss or the birth of a child—tapping into our romantic side.
The collection was a huge success and this year sees the arrival of a number of new timepieces. There is now a choice of three sizes— 34mm, 36mm and a new larger 38.20mm—plus a whole range of new straps in a myriad of colors. Previously only available in pink gold or steel cases, there is also the addition of yellow and white gold cases this year, bringing a whole new look to the design.
One of the highlights of this new range of Rendez-Vous timepieces is the Rendez-Vous Sonatina, which introduces a chiming feature to the collection. The word “Sonatina” is the musical term for a short melody, and every time the hands arrive at the secret rendez-vous time, a hammer strikes the magical hour.
The Rendez-Vous Sonatina comes in the larger 38.20mm size and is powered by the brand’s automatic 745 Caliber. The dial has been crafted with a fine guilloché decoration that has been created to resemble raw silk, while blued steel hands bring a traditional Swiss watchmaking touch to the overall design. A closer look reveals the elegant night and day indicator in a semi-circle at 6 o’clock, complementing the Rendez-Vous star at its side.
Rendez-Vous Moon Medium
The moon has often been a source of inspiration for Jaeger-LeCoultre and this fascination continues with the new Rendez-Vous Moon Collection. Available in steel or pink gold, the Rendez-Vous Moon Medium comes in a 34mm yellow gold case and includes a moon phase with a finely-worked geometric guilloché motif on both the dial and the moon disc. On the mechanical side, the moon complication is so precise that it only needs resetting once every 985 years, attesting to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmaking prowess.
The Rendez-Vous Moon is slightly larger than the medium version at 36mm and comes in pink gold case with a golden dial, a mother of pearl moon, and an array of brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel and the rim of the case. A further 26 diamonds nestle discreetly in a semi-circle above the hour numbers.
Rendez-Vous Night & Day Large
The Rendez-Vous Night & Day Large comes in both the new yellow gold case, and the new larger size of 38.20mm. It is also available with a new metal bracelet. This version also includes an interchangeable strap system so ladies can change their straps without the use of any tools, switching from daytime pastels to darker shades for eveningwear. The model is also available in pink gold and diamonds with an ostrich leather strap.
And last but not least, the Medium Rendez-Vous Night & Day comes in a 34mm yellow gold case with a silver-colored guilloché dial and a pastel pink leather strap which both bring out the beautiful gold luster of the case.
I can’t wait to get to the SIHH and try all these new Rendez-Vous timepieces on. With so many choices I know I am going to find one that suits me to perfection. If I had one already, I could put the star at 8:30—the time the SIHH doors open—now that’s a Rendez-Vous that I’m looking forward to!
