Blancpain: Lots 8, 9, 10 and 11

These consecutive lots see four watches from Blancpain’s current collection offered for sale: a L’Evolution Semainier Grande Date 8 Jours (lot 8), a Leman Reval GMT (lot 9), a Villeret Demi-Fuseau Horaire 8 Jours  (lot 10) and a Villeret Quantième Complet Demi-Savonette (lot 11).

The L-Evolution Semainier displays day and date, annual week number and power reserve alongside the expected hours and minutes. The oversized 3 and 9 o’clock roman hour markers and stainless-steel 44mm case are also worth mentioning. Its estimate is £3,500-£4,500.

The Leman Reval GMT, on the other hand, features a rose-gold case measuring 41mm alongside GMT, alarm and date complications. The black dial also displays a power reserve indicator, seconds sub-dial and an on/off indicator and subsidiary dial for the watch’s alarm complication. It’s estimate is £4,500-£5,500.

The two Villeret watches are both also housed in rose-gold cases, with lot 10 combining an enamel dial, quickset date, second time-zone indication, and day/night indicator within its 42mm diameter. While lot 11 combines date, month and moon phase within its 40mm; an exhibition caseback beneath a hinged lid can also be found to the reverse of the watch. Lot 10’s estimate is £3,000-£4,000; lot 11’s estimate is £3,000-£5,000.

Jacob & Co.: Lot 107

Bear with me on this one. Upon first glance a quartz driven, stone-set steel, 46mm Jacob & Co. wristwatch is not the usual Revolution fodder. It is in fact pretty off-piste for us.

However, prominent and trendsetting New York rappers A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg (members of the ‘hip hop collective’ A$AP Mob) have both recently been spotted wearing Jacob & Co. Five Time Zone watches. Popular in the early 2000’s – particularly in the hip hop community – the Five Time Zone has dipped considerably in desirability and value. But, perhaps with the renewed interest from admired pop culture figures the Five Time Zone will find a new lease of life. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on, if not only for the sake of curiosity. Its estimate is £1,400-£2,000.

Panerai: Lot 203

My personal favourite, lot 203 is 47mm of gentrified military-watch cool. A limited edition Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Ceramica dating from ‘circa 2013’. Produced in a run of 1000 pieces, the watch boasts black ceramic case construction, an in-house self-winding P.9000 movement, vintage-style lume and a water resistance of 300 meters. This example includes a spare strap, screwdriver, box and a service letter dated July 2015 in its sale. Its estimate is £4,000-£5,500.

 Vacheron Constantin: Lot 323

This lot will see the gavel fall on a Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar in platinum. Technical and design attributes aside, lot 323 could be considered worthy of note purely because of its rarity and value. With the highest estimate of the sale by a significant margin (£50,000-£80,000), the Patrimony Perpetual Calendar features a skeletonised dial, tasteful 39mm case size, an automatic movement and moon phase and namesake perpetual calendar complications.
