La Decima: Rafael Nadal’s 10th French Open Title

The final score: 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

With the odds stacked high against Wawrinka and Rafa on a mission to win his 10th title on the clay courts of Paris, this was never going to be your average final.

Here’s a little bit of history between the two: Not only has Rafa won 15 of his previous games with Stan, but all of those wins came after he won the first set.

Pat Cash, former Wimbledon champion reporting live on BBC.co.uk, at one point said it best, “Rafa brings something new to the table, from what anyone has ever seen before. Stan hasn’t found the groove and these are the worst conditions to play Rafa in.”

Ultimately, after set two was in the bag, it was just a matter of Stan trying his best to go out on a high.

It has to, also, be said that keeping in mind Rafa’s form and injuries over the last few seasons his performance at the Philippe-Chatrier Court was nothing short of phenomenal.

For you and I — the watch geeks, of course — perhaps the greater thrill was to see two tennis titans duel it out with watches on their wrists. Rafa sporting his recently unveiled, Richard Mille RM 27-03 Tourbillon and Wawrinka the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Dream Team, which he’s worn throughout his battles to the finals at the 2017 Roland Garros.

Finally, with Rafa’s victory on the clay courts, and his present form, it’s only fair to wonder, are we in for a Nadal vs Federer battle at Wimbledon?
