Bamford Watch Department (BWD) continues to come out with sharply executed timepieces in its ongoing collaboration with the watch brands of LVMH. The latest of these is a TAG Heuer Calibre 5, given the distinctive all-black treatment that is associated with BWD’s rise to prominence amongst the horological cognoscenti.

Distinguishing this model further is a dial designed in conjunction with famed contemporary artist Jonas Wood. Known primarily for his depictions of domestic interiors and still-life work (including a large number of studies of houseplants), Wood has gained a reputation for intimate paintings of complex composition expressed through a modern lens.

The dial of the BWD x Jonas Wood TAG Heuer Calibre 5 is coloured bright orange with an overlay of black lines that evoke the markings of a basketball. Another frequent theme of Wood’s work is sports, and the dial design is particularly apt for the robust, retro-casual Calibre 5 model.

Exclusively available from Dover Street Market in selected locations and online, and launched today at DSM’s new Los Angeles store, the BWD x Jonas Wood TAG Heuer Calibre 5 comes with the artist’s signature engraved on the caseback and is housed in a wooden presentation box with the familiar lines of a basketball court etched on the lid. Just 25 pieces are available, priced at £7,000.

Says George Bamford, founder of BWD: “I love the friendly quality of [Jonas Wood’s] work, and the way that he uses colour as a balancing act.  Wood is known for his graphic aesthetics and colourful works which are a perfect foundation for an interesting collaboration”.
