NOMOS’ Baselworld 2018 Novelty, the Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date Wins Red Dot Award

The latest collection from NOMOS, the Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date, has won a prestigious Red Dot award for 2018. The new timepiece, introduced at Baselworld this year, was designed by independent designers Werner Aisslinger and Tina Bunyaprasit in association with NOMOS.
“Autobahn is one of a kind,” says NOMOS creative director Judith Borowski. “And quick off the mark too: the fact that this watch has won an award so soon after its market launch is particularly special for us.”

Aisslinger, in an interview with Revolution USA’s Joy Corthésy, says, “In the German watchmaker scene, NOMOS is, for us and I think other designers, the ultimate brand. When the CEO, Uwe Ahrendt, asked us to collaborate, we never would have said no. The scale of the mechanical watch makes this an interesting project. For us as designers it’s really interesting to jump from industry to industry and be confronted with these new challenges. We are not watch designers, most are based in Switzerland and it can be a fairly closed off society. For us, this was a more playful cooperation to dive into, and we were like, ‘Okay, let’s make a watch!’ It was a super interesting project.” (see the entire interview with both designers in the July 2018 issue of Revolution USA.)

This isn’t NOMOS’s first brush with Red Dot fame – the brand has already won ten Red Dot awards for its watches.

The official award ceremony for Autobahn takes place on July 9 in Essen, Germany.

Congratulations, NOMOS. Well deserved, indeed.
