Oris Honey No. 3 Auctioned for ‘Watch & Act!’

A third of the koala population in the state of New South Wales alone, have died as a result of the present Australian bush fires (vice.com). Just let that sink in for a second.

10 million hectares of land, burnt; a couple dozen dead (including those fighting the fire), thousands of people evacuated, many more thousands of homes destroyed. But it’s really the wildlife in the collective affected regions that’s been hit to the gravest of extent.

According to Bloomberg, a study released “by the University of Sydney’s Chris Dickman indicate more than 800 million animals have been killed in the state of New South Wales alone, while one billion had died nationally.”

As devastating as the figures above sound, what does a great deal of good for the heart is the massive outpouring of aid that has been made available to the cause at hand, on an unheard-of global scale.

Leading the charge for #WatchFam on this front has been our friends Down Under, at Time+Tide. Their initiative, the ‘Watch & Act!’ World Watch Auction for the Australian bushfires has brought together top brands and watch authorities, to offer up timepieces for sale.

Andrew McUtchen, founder of Time+Tide, writing about his initiative says, “100% of proceeds from the auction will be distributed across five charities: two rural fire services groups – the Country Fire Authority in Victoria and the Rural Fire Service of New South Wales; two wildlife rescue groups – Wildlife Victoria and the World Wildlife Fund; and one fund, the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund, created specifically for the south-east region of Victoria, which has been particularly hard-hit.”
