It’s hard to not think about NASA and the space program when talking about Omega. After all, the Omega Speedmaster is one of the most iconic—and that word isn’t used lightly—watch ever created and has served astronauts on many missions around our blue planet. In the case of the Apollo 13 mission, the Speedmaster even played a vital part and allowed the astronauts’ safe return to Earth.
But with 171 years of heritage under its belt, the brand has a lot more to celebrate apart from space exploration. And to do so, Omega launched the Planet Omega exhibition to offer a unique insight into one of the most important watch brands in existence.
The launch took place inside the Power Station of Art in Shanghai where Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega, took to the stage to introduce the exhibition and welcome Oscar-winning English actor Eddie Redmayne, ambassador for Omega since 2015, to officially launch it.
Planet Omega uses heritage and modern timepieces from the maison to explore the various stories and partnerships that Omega has created and developed over the course of its history.
Seven distinctive topics were chosen: Olympic Games & Sports, Space, Glamour, Precision, Ocean, James Bond and Heritage. Each theme is arranged in pillars which encapsulate the watches on display while also giving an inside look at the milestones that these timepieces celebrate.
The Planet Omega exhibition runs until May 12 at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai and will continue its tour in China before embarking on a world tour over the next few years.
