Pre-Basel 2015: New Pano Models from Glashütte Original

Next week at Baselworld, Glashütte Original’s PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar families will each welcome two new members – one in red gold with a matte black dial, and one in stainless steel with an intense blue dial.

Glashütte Original produces its own dials in a manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany’s the city of gold and jewelry. Each dial requires up to 40 separate operations to complete. To achieve just the right color, precise control must be exercised over the galvanic coloring process, ensuring for example that the tension is at the correct level, that the dial is submerged in the bath for the right length of time, and that the correct distance is maintained between the elements in the bath.

On the red gold version of the PanoMaticLunar, the hour, minute and second hands, and the nine hour indexes, are fashioned from gold. The moon phase display presents stars and a golden moon set above a silver sky that really pops against the black dial. The red gold PanoReserve similarly offers hands and applied indexes in gold. The blue-dial models feature white gold hands and silver hand-applied indexes. All versions feature luminous highlights on the hands for improved visibility.

The PanoReserve case measures 40mm x 11.7mm and it houses the manufactory’s Caliber 65-01 with 42 hour power reserve and 48 jewels, including five set in gold chatons. This manual-wind movement features traditional Glashütte three-quarter plate construction with the balance bridge and second cock engraved by hand. A duplex swan-neck fine adjustment compliments the balance with 18 weighted screws.
