With four days to go before Baselworld 2018 kicks off — three if you consider the 21st of March, Press Day is quite frankly a full day for us right now — Patek Philippe’s already made three announcements.
Two of these are new novelties and the third a bold undertaking that many of us having been wanting to witness in this lifetime.
So, the new watches in question are two new variations on the 5524G Calatrava Pilot Travel Time of Baselworld 2015. Rendered now in rose gold, the reference 5524R and 7234R stand at 42mm and 37.5mm, respectively. Therefore, the Pilot Travel Time now exists in a smaller, feminine form.
Curious detail, is that for some reason the 5524R is in 5N rose gold, while the 7234R is in 4N rose gold.
Anyway, of the Travel Time watches that already in Patek Philippe’s collection geared towards their female clientele, the 7234R is the first instance of one with an automatic movement. The movement in question is the caliber 324 S C FUS from the 2015 edition.
Given then given divide that the watch created when the maison first introduced it to us three years back, the reception of the 2018 versions, both the 42mm and the 37.5mm seem to be skewed towards a very positive one. In fact, plenty are suggesting that the 37.5mm is quite possibly a versatile sizing decision that holds the potential for both men and women to wear.
How are we able to suggest these sentiments? Well, here’s where the third part of today’s announcements come in. Patek Philippe has finally arrived into the era of Instagram. It is on this platform that they chose to unveil the two new watches earlier today, which therefore has already allowed for the massive collector’s community on Instagram to have already weighed in with its thoughts.
With that said and done, we now wait on Press Day, the 21st of March for the full 2018 collection reveal.
