Elegance can often be found in details; the delicate way a dress falls, the way a heel is connected to a shoe, or the fine stitching on a purse. Details like these display the expertise of its maker, and the confidence to apply it correctly, since elegance is also about balance. Details and balance are also key words in relation to two new additions to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s line-up for ladies; the Rendez-Vouz Night & Day watch, with a 29mm case, available in stainless steel and pink gold.
Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of those brands that is able to create one dazzling ladies watch after another in a seemingly effortless manner, without boring you to death with the same theme, and always with a design that is not only contemporary, but the rare kind of contemporary that ages well. In the world of Jaeger-LeCoultre, this is accomplished by a balanced array of details which find their focal point on the dial. Here segments of Mother-of-Pearl are placed around the dial’s center in a marquetry way, each printed with an Arabic numeral. Above the numeral, a small diamond is placed which makes it that the Mother-of-Pearl is not the only part of the dial that plays with the light!
The Night & Day most obviously, got its name due to the day/night-indicator on the dial. The most common way to display this, is with a disk that shows a moon and a sun which trades places in the course of the day. Jaeger-LeCoultre takes a different, and far more interesting approach. Here a sun and a moon are actually crafted out of metal and move through the aperture. There is tremendous play of light because the sun and moon do not travel closely over the background, but some room has been left so that they even cast a modest shadow. Of course this is another one of the deliberate details in the watch.
Compared to the dials, the case is rather straight forward in its design. As a result, not only is the majority of ones attention aimed at the dial, but at the same time it gives the watch the almost boundless ability to mix-and-match whatever outfit you are wearing. The 29mm diameter also helps to make the Rendez-Vouz Night & Day a jack-of-all-trades, or more accurate; a jack-of-all-treads, since it will seemingly effortless transition with you from jeans to more formal wear. 29mm is on the wrist of many women a perfect size; not too small so that you’ll have to stare at your watch to read the time, yet also not too large, which can be uncomfortable and too prominent a statement. This also makes the Rendez-Vouz a true companion, one that can do it all, and looks good while doing it. This is probably also the reason why, next to pink gold, Jaeger-LeCoultre also offers the Rendez-Vous Day & Night in stainless steel.
The case also houses a hidden gem; Jaeger-LeCoultre’s manufacture caliber 967A. This automatic caliber has a power reserve of 42 hours and pleases its owner through the sapphire display back with Geneva striping, beveled bridges and blued screws. Expect from this caliber the sturdy precision one has come to expect from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Some might be disappointed that the Rendez-Vouz is fitted with a pin-buckle, instead of a folding claps. Both have their own share of fan’s, but a pin-buckle is still a very dependable way of attaching the watch in a secure way around the wrist, and since hardly no metal touches the inside of the wrist, it is also a comfortable way of doing so. The simple shape of the buckle, and modest engraving of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s logo forms a nice balance with the watch itself, and details and balance is what this new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Night & Day is all about!
