SIHH 2016: H. Moser & Cie. Novelties

For the large part, H. Moser & Cie’s watches whisper: quietly elegant, and the smoky tone gradation of their fumé dials passes for sublime. We can’t think of any perpetual calendar that does its job with less indications, and within, Moser’s beautiful watches are matched with beautiful movements that sparkle with clever, innovative engineering. Some picks from Geneva…

Swiss Alp Watch

A somewhat cheeky send-up of the Apple Watch, but oh, so lovely. As the company reveals, rather than following the trend of making electronic watches that look like mechanical watches, it has instead found inspiration in today’s smartwatches to create something purely mechanical.

Manual-wind movement with interchangeable escapement and 100-hour power reserve with indicator at the back; white gold case (38.2 x 44.0 mm / height: 10.3 mm).

Endeavour Centre Seconds Concept Funky Blue

Speak of purity, there’s nothing on the dial except shapely leaf hands and blue sky. Even the power reserve indicator has been shunted to the back. In 40.8mm white or rose gold case, manual-wind movement with interchangeable escapement and power reserve indicator.

Venturer Small Seconds XL Funky Blue

The Venturer collection takes its inspiration from convex lines of vintage watches of the 1960s and also pocket watches. Here, it’s been given such a refreshing, and dare we say, funky, makeover, courtesy of enlarged case, sky-blue fume dial and kudu (a type of antelope) raw leather strap.

43mm white gold case with curved sapphire crystal, hand-wound movement with 3-day power reserve with indicator on the back.

Perpetual Calendar Heritage Special Edition

19th century pocket watch by H. Moser

Perpetual Calendar Heritage Special Edition

(case opened)

Inspired by a 19th century H. Moser pocket watch, the Heritage Special Edition is a hybrid of traditional craft, luxury and modern movement engineering. From the photos, it’s a very convincing study of the 19th century pocket watch, now interpreted for the wrist, decorated with the full complement of enamel, diamonds and hand-painted numerals, with H. Moser’s modern perpetual calendar movement in solid gold. 46mm red gold case, manual-wind perpetual calendar movement with 7 days’ power reserve.

Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Concept

It’s been ten years since the company’s Endeavour Perpetual Calendar stunned the community with the leanness and efficiency of its perpetual calendar display. In the Concept, which is limited to 10 pieces in white gold, the indications have gone even leaner. All the better to mesmerised by the dial.

40.8mm white gold case, hand-wind movement with power reserve indicator for 7 days.
