SIHH 2017: Cartier Skeleton Mysterious Hour

Share

Cartier have had a strong showing this year at SIHH. One of their coveted launches was the Rotonde de Cartier Skeleton Mysterious Hour.

A delightful dress watch with a new take on their original mystery hours wristwatch.

The open worked dial allows you to view the glorious hand-wound calibre 9983 MC.

All the bridges and base plate are in German silver. This is such, because without the traditional watchmaking architecture, an increased rigidity is required.

On first glance, you are struck by these incredibly elegant floating hands, which are both mounted independently on sapphire discs. The movement is almost in free fall on the dial, with the gear train visible between one and four o’clock on the dial.

The 42mm case is palladium — a white, robust case material. For me, this was the standout from Cartier, a watch I’d have no hesitation strapping on.
