SIHH 2017: IWC’s Da Vinci Automatic 36

In a change from its established direction of the past few years, IWC have introduced the Da Vinci Automatic 36 — the starter watch in the Schaffhausen manufacture’s rebooted Da Vinci collection.

CEO, Georges Kern, says of his new watches, “With the new Da Vinci collection, IWC Schaffhausen has returned to the round case that was so successfully established by the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar in 1985. It means we are bidding farewell to the tonneau case and reaffirming our commitment to the classic proportions the brand stands for”.

Aimed particularly at women, the Automatic 36 features — as the name suggests — a 36mm round case, available in stainless steel or red gold, on either a matching-metal bracelet or alligator leather strap and with or without stone-set diamond bezel.

Previously a decidedly male focused brand, Kern says of the slight gender shift, “we are re-establishing an old tradition of creating selected models from the Da Vinci line specially for women and adding diamonds or fashion-able straps and bracelets as features.”
