Girard-Perregaux presents the stunning Bridges Cosmos tourbillon, as well as midnight editions of its 1966 and Laureato collections

Haute Horlogerie: Bridges Cosmos

Girard-Perregaux’s SIHH 2019 novelties start off with the headliner: the Bridges Cosmos. A 48mm bead blasted titanium piece, powered by the all new Calibre GP09320 (60-hour power reserve).

Functionally speaking, the watch gives you your local time using the sub dial at 12 o’clock. Then you have a laser engraved blue-tinted titanium sphere at 9 o’clock, which can be customized to the owners wishes, featuring the zodiac star formations. This celestial sphere rotates every 23 hours, 58 minutes and 4 seconds to reflect an exact sidereal day. The star formations are further enhanced by the application of luminescent hydroceramic — which basically means they glow in the dark.

Next, at 3 o’clock, you have yet another sphere, with the earth mapped out using laser engraving. Paired with the 24-hour scale around its equator, you are able to read off day/night for your local time and as well you have a sort of dual time function readable from the front of the dial and from the back of the watch.

And finally, at 6 o’clock we’re presented with the watch’s tourbillon regulating organ, held in place with a black PVD-treated titanium bridge.

As most of the dial components are engraved and treated with luminescent hydroceramic, you’re presented with quite the sight when the lights go out.

1966 – “Earth to Sky Edition”

Novelty number two is an addition made to the brand’s 1966 collection, the 1966 “Earth to Sky Edition” is a sort of poetic dialog that the brand engages in with the cosmos, the sky and ocean thanks to the watch’s vignette blue dial. Otherwise the timepiece remains a simple, three-hander with a date window at 3 o’clock.

Laureato Absolute

Rounding things off is a trio added to the Laureato collection that takes on an edgier outlook for the recently redesigned and relaunched Laureato. All three watches come in 44mm polished and satin-brushed black PVD-treated titanium cases and feature dials that are essentially a hollowed out blue dial on top for all the indications and a black layer under.

The three additions made are a three-hander with date, a chronograph version and a WW.TC version. All three use the above dial implementation for their specific indications. Note particularly the chronograph, which as a result has this stepped dial effect to it.
