At the conclusion of Baselworld 2017, there were murmurs on the ground of Hermès making a transition from the March industry fair to the one in Geneva, come January of 2018.
Today, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie has not only confirmed this, but also announced that there will be several new additions to the show for its 28th installment.
The present main hall will be expanded to incorporate Hermès, while the Carré des Horlogers will too have its floor space extended to invite new comers, DeWitt, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and Romain Gauthier. Therefore, bringing the total number of fair participants for 2018 to 34. 18 along the primary aisle and another 16 in the Carré des Horlogers.
Which also means that there have been no exits from the show, just additions. Last year, the show took on Ulysse, Girard-Perregaux, Grönefeld, MCT–Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps, Ressence, RJ-Romain Jerome and Speake-Marin.
Begs the question then, how far will the fair officials allow SIHH to grow to? This morning’s press release quotes the SIHH Managing Director, Fabienne Lupo explaining it as such: “There is no intention of extending SIHH indefinitely. It will grow within carefully measured limits so as to preserve the values of excellence that have forged its reputation. It must also meet the expectations of its exhibitors and clients, both now and in the future.”
The press release also confirmed that the Public Day, initiated at SIHH 2017, which allows ticketed public access into the show on its last day will carry on for the 2018 edition.
