Tony Stark’s Next Urwerk for Avengers: Infinity War?

Heard about the new Spider-Man flick? Sure you have. It’s called Spider-Man: Homecoming and stars a 21-year-old, Tom Holland as a 15-year-old Spidey/Peter Parker. But, wait, hang on. Wasn’t Spider-Man already played by a Garfield (note: not orange cat) or was that a Maguire?

Answer is, they all have. They were all Marvel backed and they all featured a Stan Lee cameo. Tobey Maguire took on the role in Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2, (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007) with the first installment being the Spider-Man origins story.

Later Andrew Garfield put on the Spidey mask in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, again with a reload of the origins story.

Tom Holland, the third and most recent in the lineup, has taken on the role in his first standalone Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Standalone because he’s already played the part once in Captain America: Civil War (2016) as necessitated by the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe plotline.

Which then leads us to why the movie is worth watching: 1) Because it’s not another origins story reboot and, 2) especially if you’ve been following along with the recent chain-linked Marvel movies, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

Although, if you’re a watchnut, then here’s a third reason. The story goes that towards the end of the 2016, “people” from the Spider-Man: Homecoming production team, reached out to the good folks at Urwerk, saying that they had a character from the movie who was interested to try out and even wear one of their watches for the movie.

Of course, when such emails land in your inbox, it’s not hard to reminisce spam emails of old with the prince of Nigeria asking for you to immediately send through your bank details so that the good prince can send you a million dollars from his royal treasury; no strings attached.

Urwerk has never had an ambassador, it’s never been their thing and it’s wasn’t the right time to invest in such a partnership. So the brand gracefully declined. But there was knock on their inbox soon after, with some insistence and the mention of one name: Robert Downey Jr.

There was no time to waste. Yacine Sar, the super woman who takes care of all of Urwerk’s communications, flew straight down to Atlanta, USA to meet Mr. Downey face to face. It was he, who explained to her saying in his own words, if Tony Stark was to wear a watch — a mechanical watch — it had to be something from the likes of Urwerk; a watch that would make him cooler than he already is.

On that faithful day, Yacine put an UR-110RG on Mr. Downey’s wrist, which is, of course, the same watch you will see on Tony Stark’s wrist, when you go to see Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Although, just ahead of the movie’s premiere, Yacine was next to Mr. Downey yet again. And this time he had a UR-105 TA “Raging Gold” on his wrist. So, it’s either that he’s been Urwerk shopping since his first one, or we’re already getting a glimpse of the next watch Tony Stark will wear in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
