Bremont

Two Blueblood Brits

Share

Blue has been a hot dial colour for a couple of years, with such universal appeal that this regal hue is joining black, white or silver as a default choice. Years ahead of the curve, The Watch Gallery, London’s premier luxury watch retailer, has long used blue as its signature shade. In conjunction with British chronometer manufacturer Bremont, The Watch Gallery has chosen this colour to grace the face of their latest exclusive edition.

Marking the retailer’s partnership with British watchmaker Bremont, the new chronograph – chronometer-certified like all Bremont watches – is only the second special edition on which the two have collaborated. This timepiece follows the success of their previous 2012 collaboration, while celebrating, too, the pending arrival of Bremont’s 15th anniversary since its inception, and the 10th anniversary of the first watch reaching production.

It was in 2002 that the brand’s founders, brothers Nick and Giles English, designed the ALT1-C. The first realisation of their goal to revive British watchmaking, the concept also honoured their background as aviators. As seasoned pilots, they also insisted on chronometer certification for all of their watches, itself a demonstration of the Bremont slogan, “Tested Beyond Endurance”.

In creating the ALT1-C, Bremont produced a modern classic, exhibiting high legibility, structural integrity and ideal functionality – all qualities required by professional users. The inspiration for the look, too, addresses their lifelong love of vintage aircraft: the brothers turned to the celebrated design of the RAF Mosquito’s fuel gauge, transferring its design language to a precision timepiece.

With the Bremont ALT1-C Watch Gallery Limited Edition, the etched sub-dials stand out in white-against-blue, with red numerals for the 60-minute and 30-second counters’ indications. The hour numerals are polished and applied, not printed, against the blue, further enhancing the legibility. The date appears in its own window at 6 o’clock. Completing the theme, the company’s Trip-Tick case, fashioned of three sections, attaches to the wrist with a calfskin strap embossed in the same signature blue, and pierced in a manner reminiscent of the straps favoured by Grand Prix drivers in the 1960s.

“The beautiful blue-coloured dial, teamed with a blue strap, not only makes this watch distinctive but also pretty unique,” says Bremont Co-Founder Nick English. “We’ve worked with The Watch Gallery for many years now and it’s a wonderful partnership, something we’re very motivated by. It was an honour to produce a watch in partnership with them and it seemed fitting to use the blue of The Watch Gallery; with its beautifully polished applied indexes, we’ve come up with something slightly more classical.”

Adrian Maronneau, Director of Buying & Merchandising at The Watch Gallery, says: “The Watch Gallery and Bremont share a special history. We were one of the first accounts worldwide to launch the brand back in 2007 and have since then grown up together. You could go as far as calling us best buddies.

“This new limited edition truly celebrates our common history. We have been talking about creating a blue dial on the ALT1-C since it first launched. Mixed with a perfectly matching blue racing strap it gives the watch an inimitable Watch Gallery look while staying true to Bremont’s famous DNA.”

Limited to only 20 examples, the timepiece is available throughout The Watch Gallery’s Bremont London outlets, which include The Wonder Room, Selfridges, Oxford Street, The Watch Gallery at Westfield, London and online at www.thewatchgallery.com/bremont-watches. Price is £4,895.
