How Much For A Smile — The Charity Sale Of A Unique IWC Portugieser

Share

Three weeks ago, a very special IWC Portugieser timepiece was first shown to selected friends of IWC and REVOLUTION — a unique piece commemorating the 10th anniversary of the world’s most influential watch publication.

One week ago, the hammer went down on the IWC Portugieser Hand Wound Eight Days Edition “75th Anniversary” Unique Piece For REVOLUTION, going to a private collector in Asia, at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Sale of Important Watches. The full proceeds of the sale, which amounted to HKD 243,750 (USD 31,451), are designated for Smile Asia, a charity of REVOLUTION’s choice, that provides free surgery for children born with facial deformities.

The journey of the IWC Portugieser Hand Wound Eight Days Edition “75th Anniversary” Unique Piece For REVOLUTION — from Schaffhausen to Singapore to Hong Kong — shows us all how the love of horology can unite us and lets us strengthen our sense of community and simultaneously give back to society in a truly meaningful way.

Our thanks go out to IWC for this wonderful opportunity, to Sotheby’s Hong Kong for their inestimable help in the sale of the watch, and to all friends of IWC and REVOLUTION who came together to make this worthy activity a success — to give many children in need a better chance at life than they were born with.
