Out of curiosity I went a-hunting to see if I could find any evidence of the horological preferences of one of the 20th century’s most famous writers.
The title of this article pretty much tells you what I found out (AP file photo, apparently; originally found here.) Yes, the magisterially aloof author of Pnin, Pale Fire, Ada, and, of course, Lolita, is shown here wearing what is pretty unambiguously a DateJust. On a dark leather strap, it looks like.
Nothing on his extensive collection of NATO straps but who knows what other skeletons are in the Nabakovian horological closet.
